AMIkids Programs

AMIkids operates some of the most effective juvenile justice and alternative education programs across the country. Currently we provide options for kids at more than 50 sites in nine different states (FL, GA, IL, LA, NC, NM, SC, TX and VA).

Within each state, we offer a variety of options to meet the needs of kids and communities with five program types.

Residential

Residential programs operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with students residing in dormitories on campus. The youth are committed to these programs for approximately 4-9 months and can be committed for as long as 36 months. The youth reside at the program and leave only for off-site, supervised program activities or approved furloughs. Family visitations vary by program. Youth have been adjudicated delinquent by the court and typically have multiple misdemeanors or felonies.

Day Treatment

Day Treatment Programs allow youth to reside at home and attend the program daily.  Day Treatment Programs operate during the day time hours; usually from 8 am to 5 pm., Monday through Friday. Students are transported to and from the program daily either by the program itself or in partnership with local school district transportation. Services are also offered on Saturday in some programs. Day treatment programs are co-ed, serving both boys and girls. Kids reside at home while attending the program. Staff are able to address issues in both the home and in the student’s neighborhood by working with the kids and family together. Youth have been adjudicated delinquent by the court for misdemeanors and lesser felonies. Students are referred through juvenile justice agencies or school districts. Length of stay is usually 4-6 months.

Infinity Schools

Infinity Schools are alternative schools that emphasize improving student citizenship and increasing academic functioning level during regular school hours. Infinity Schools work in collaboration with local school districts. Referred youth receive alternative education because they are unable to perform within the public school system, have displayed disruptive behavior, are facing expulsion or having experienced learning disabilities or emotional handicaps.  The youth typically attend during regular school hours, five days a week.

WINGS

WINGS programs are specifically designed to meet the needs of adolescent delinquent girls and reflect an understanding of female development. Just as young women are different from young men, so must be their services. A pregnant teenage girl who faces incarceration also faces the possibility that her newborn will be placed in care outside the family through the foster care system. AMIkids WINGS programs provide the opportunity for delinquent girls to remain with their babies and learn the foundation of becoming effective parents while giving them skills to become productive citizens. Adult female staff members model healthy relationships and teach girls how to build relationships of trust and interdependence with other women already in their lives to help ensure a successful transition.

Family Services

Family Services provides home-based family counseling and intervention. The model allows youth to stay in the home and attend their own school. An AMIkids counselor makes regular visits to the home to work with the youth and family to address issues that may be causing delinquent behavior.  This program is implemented as designed by Functional Family Therapy (FFT LLC, Inc.). FFT is a short-term, high quality intervention program with an average of 12 sessions over a 3-4 month period. FFT is a strength-based model. At its core is a focus and assessment of those risk and protective factors that impact the child and his or her environment.
