AMIkids Big Cypress announces that it has been awarded funding to develop vocational training and job placement programs provided by the grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor to AMIkids earlier this year. The training will provide AMIkids Big Cypress students the certifications and tools they need to be job-ready when they complete the program, qualifying them for immediate employment.
The 2015 AMikids Legislative Day was a huge success. Two of our students from AMIkids Big Cypress were able to attend the event. Senator Dwight Bullard (39th District) was very supportive of our program and even took pictures with our kids and gave them some words of advice.
AMIkids Big Cypress students have been making great strides in their construction training by building picnic tables. The kids start out by measuring and cutting the wood in specific lengths and assembling the pieces and support needs to ensure the benches will hold the proper weight. Then they attach the legs and supports to the bench top. "These boys are learning so fast and are so eager to learn and work," said Mr. Vargas.
For four long, grueling days, more than 200 at-risk youth from across the nation converged on the campus of South Carolina State University – challenging themselves physically, mentally and emotionally as they competed against one another during the 2016 AMIkids Summer Challenge Event.
