  • AMIkids West Florida cleans up at Falling Waters State Park

    Young men at AMIkids West Florida are providing community service! Each year, they work to clean-up the waterfall at Falling Waters State Park. This famous waterfall goes down a hole about 60 feet deep, and from time to time trash that has fallen into the hole is removed. To get to the trash, AMIkids students had to rappel down into the hole. Then a bucket was lowered, filled with trash and hauled up. That was the easy part. The hard part was getting out of the hole. For that they used a special rock climbing device with ratchets that inch-wormed them back up.

  • AMIkids participates in WAT-AAH!'s Move Your Body

    AMIkids brought together more than 100 Louisiana and Florida students to celebrate WAT-AAH!'s Move Your Body 2012 at Loyola University in New Orleans on May 3rd. To their surprise they even had a few special guests join them! Marques Colston, Pierre Thomas and Roman Harper of the New Orleans Saints and Bruno White from SWC were on hand to join in the festivities. The kids and athletes took part in WAT-AAH!'s "Let's Move! Flash Workout" Anniversary Celebration, supported by the First Lady Michelle Obama, 16-time Grammy Award winner, Beyoncé and the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) .

  • 6th Annual Tony Dorsett AMIkids Celebrity Golf Classic

    Tony Dorsett enjoyed a brilliant career as a collegiate and NFL running back, but the former Dallas Cowboys Hall-of-Famer now has set his sights on helping troubled South Carolina kids get an opportunity to become responsible and productive citizens within their local communities. Registration is now being accepted for the 6th Annual Tony Dorsett AMIkids Celebrity Golf Classic that will be held Saturday, May 19, at True Blue Golf Plantation in Pawleys Island, S.C. All proceeds from the event will go toward funding for a much-needed new AMIkids facility in the Georgetown, S.C., area.

    The Tampa Bay Business Journal has announced AMIkids as a finalist for the 2012 Nonprofit of the Year Awards. Honorees will be recognized at the awards luncheon on Thursday, June 21st. The Tampa Bay Business Journal will be publishing the 2012 Nonprofit of the Year special section featuring all of the finalists in the June 22nd issue of the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

  • AMIkids featured in Coach Tony Dungy's segment on USA Network's NFL Characters Unite

    In NFL CHARACTERS UNITE, Coach Dungy introduces a group of ex-offenders from Abe Brown Ministry to the students at AMIkids and asks them to break into pairs. The ex-offenders then share their stories with the kids, in an attempt to educate them that making smart decisions now can save them a lifetime of pain. Coach Dungy walks amongst the groups, adding insight to each of the conversations.
